Adults have a lot to learn from their kids. My son participates in two sports, Moto x and football. Both him and his mates enjoy it immensely. They never have a cross word to say and quite rightly just get on with it .In between races they get on with each other, play games together and discuss the previous race

Last Sunday after six fiercely fought rounds in the 65cc group (8-11 year olds) five of them all stopped at the finish and without any prompting from the adults they all shook hands. Credit to them.

Unlike some of the parents at this race, namely the 50cc group where their parents seem manic and rush around after the kids shouting orders. If they fall off they are promptly picked up shoved on the bike whether they are crying or not and sent on their way. Is this the right way to bring up a child ?

As I said my lad plays football as well, for a local team. The two managers are dedicated and always make sure that all the kids get their turn instead of playing the best. This has been a good plan as some of the kids that were not playing that well at the beginning of the season have really come on. Any of you that are parents will know that kids develop at different ages and there are periods that maybe others are that one stage further. Give it a few more months and the position is reversed.

A few of the parents this year have really got out of their boxes and because their child has not been awarded any cups at the end of the year, they have pulled their child out of the team whether the kid wanted it or not. On the trophy evening the kids involved were not the slightest bit bothered particularly the guy who scored the most goals. The manager said at the beginning of the season there would be no trophy for this otherwise he would have to have a best mid fielder a best back and a best goalkeeper.

This has caused a big divide and where the team did very well last year and enjoyed playing with each other, because of the parents and their selfishness it has caused problems for the managers that turn out every week at their own time and expense to coach them.

I hope this rant about miss guided parent’s hits home and maybe they think a little more about their kids than trying to put their own failings right through their children
